LATHAM – Joyce Marie Vanderwerken Quackenbush, 83, died peacefully Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born in Troy on July 11, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Edith Rich Vanderwerken. Mrs. Quackenbush was a graduate of Troy High School. She spent her whole career in the banking industry first with Pioneer Savings & Loan, Troy Savings Bank and most recently with Cohoes Savings Bank where she was a customer service representative from 1980-1994 before retiring.
Aside from work, her greatest joys and accomplishments came as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and maintaining a wonderful home for her family. Joyce loved time on her back deck watching the birds and animals in her yard.
She was the beloved wife of 46 years of the late George A. Quackenbush, loving mother of Derek J. (Kim) Quackenbush of Amsterdam, Dana (Francois) Vachon of Guilderland, Robert A. (Kathleen) Quackenbush of Latham, Glenn W. (Maria) Quackenbush of Clarence Center, NY and Andrew G. (Susan) Quackenbush of Metairie, Louisiana. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and her lifelong friend, Frances Cowan.
Relatives and friends may call at the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham on Monday (today) from 4-7 pm followed by the funeral service at 7:00 pm. Interment will be Tuesday at Albany Rural Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
