Obituary for Georgiana B. Ottersen (Kanofske)

Georgiana B. Ottersen (Kanofske)
Johnsonville - Georgiana Ottersen 79, formally of Massapequa, East Rockaway and Elmont died on Friday January 22 2016 at Saint Peter's Hospital in Albany after a short illness. Georgina was born in Elmont on January 28 1936, daughter of George Kanofsky and Christina Gunther. She is predeceased by her brothers Harold and Peter Loff of Florida and her Sister Helen Narvesen of Mississippi.

While growing up she would enjoy summers in their house in Southbury CT. and shared many entertaining stories of these happy times.

She graduated Lynbrook High school - class of 1954. In her earlier years, she worked for the Borden's Milk Company on the switchboard where she met her future husband Ralph A. Ottersen. Following her marriage, Georgiana spent the rest of her years as a homemaker. They were happily married in Oct. 1959 until he passed in 1993. Georgiana was the beloved mother of Ralph of Deer Park and Massapequa NY and Karen Alti of Johnsonville and Massapequa NY. Mother-in-law to Carol and Paul. Adored Grandmother to Chris and Mark.

Georgiana enjoyed doing many crafts in her spare time (knitting, crocheting, counted cross stitching and scrapbooking to name a few). She was happy to move upstate in the last few years especially enjoying drives in the fall admiring the foliage and covered bridges.

The girl scouts were a big part of her life and she was a scout as a girl and a troop leader as an adult. She also taught sunday school for many years at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Seaford NY.

Georgiana loved spending time with her family especially during the vacations to Disney World. Memories that kept her smiling included being the grand marshal of the magic kingdom parade and staying at many of the Disney hotels.

Georgiana enjoyed her pets over the years and was an animal lover.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to:
