Obituary for Joseph H. Jillisky
LATHAM – Joseph H. Jillisky, 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at the Teresian House in Albany.
Joseph was born in Troy, at the former St. Joseph’s Hospital, on July 9, 1927 and was the son of the late John and Anna (Sturgeon) Jillisky. A resident of Latham, he grew up in Watervliet where he attended the former Immaculate Conception Grammar School. He was a graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy and served his country, during World War II, in the United States Marine Corps. Following his honorable discharge from the military, Joe returned home and took employment with the Behr Manning Company in Watervliet, which later became the Norton Company, where he worked for 42 years until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of the Joseph E. Zaloga Post #1520 of the American Legion and was a communicant of the former St. Patrick’s Church in Watervliet.
Joseph was pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Helen M. (Sinko) Jillisky; his son, Joseph M. Jillisky; his brother and sister-in-law, George and Sophie Jillisky and his niece, Patricia Marie Jillisky. He is survived by his niece, Nancy Alund; his grand-nephew, Tyler Donald Alund and his dear friend, Jean Degen and her family.
His funeral will be held on Saturday at 10AM from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and will then proceed to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM by the Reverend Donald Rutherford. The Rite of Committal and interment, with military honors, will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Colonie. Friends are invited and may visit with Joseph’s family on Saturday, prior to the Mass, from 9 until 10 AM at the funeral home.
