Obituary for Sonya E. Lawler (Grey)

WATERVLIET, NY – Sonya E. Grey Lawler, 54, died suddenly Wednesday, July 27, 2016. Born in Alexandria, VA on November 2, 1961, she was the daughter of the late Arthur W. and Joyce Cheeley Grey. She was raised in Kenbridge, VA and at the age of 15 moved to Wallingford, VT and graduated from Mill River Union High School in North Clarendon, VT. She later attended Castleton State College.
She was employed as a cook at the Grace House in Rutland, VT, Rossignol Development in Ludlow, VT and following her marriage she moved to Watervliet, NY and was employed as an administrative assistant by Tyco/Simplex Grinnell Fire Alarm & Suppression in Clifton Park, NY for 25 years.
Sonya devoted her life to her daughter Kerry and was her biggest advocate. She was a terrific cook, enjoyed ceramics, had a great sense of humor, and was always reaching out to people in need and advocating for people who couldn’t do it for themselves.
She was the loving mother of Kerry Anne Lawler; former wife of the late John J. Lawler; dear sister of Katrina G. (Lawrence) Corbett of Benson, VT, Tanya Grey (Joseph) Staszeski of Langhorne, PA and Viktor B. Grey of South Burlington, VT; aunt of Olivia Corbett and Kylee Grey. She is also survived by extended family in Virginia, California, Florida, Missouri and New York.
Relatives and friends may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet, NY on Friday from 4-7 pm. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 11:30 am at the Green Hill Cemetery, Route 7, Wallingford, VT.
