COHOES – Edward F. LaBelle, 89, died peacefully Monday, September 5, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy. Born in Troy on April 4, 1927, he was the son of the late Edward V. and Frances Flaherty LaBelle. Mr. LaBelle was raised and educated in Watervliet and was a resident of Troy for most of his life. He was a US Army Air Corp veteran of World War II.
Ed was employed at Montgomery Ward & Co. in Menands, Wagars Ice Cream in Troy, Stone Liquor in Albany and for over 38 years by Allegheny Ludlum (later Al Tech Steel) in Watervliet as an induction heater before retiring in 1990. He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards and participated in the Leatherstocking Freedom Flight to Washington, DC this past year.
He was the beloved husband of 67 years of the late Ruth M. Hansen LaBelle who died November 12, 2015; loving father of Edward C. (Enid) LaBelle of Colonie, Ruth (Jack) Marro of Latham, Gary P. LaBelle of Malta, Laurie L. (Joseph) Chartrand of Wilton and the late Nancy L. (late Lawrence M., Sr.) Flynn; proud grandfather of Stacey (Aron) Blais, Amy (Craig) Pariseau, Lisa (Jason) Merolle, Rebecca (Michael) McCoy, John Marro, Lawrence (Lynnette) Flynn, Jr., Brian (Dawn) Flynn, Gary E. (Rachel) LaBelle, Marc LaBelle, Troy LaBelle, Lauren Chartrand, Megan (Kyle) Haushalter, Kaitlyn Chartrand and Emily Chartrand; brother of Robert and Joyce LaBelle, Frances and Armand Bouleris and Kenneth and Rita LaBelle. Ed is also survived by 15 great grandchildren and one on the way and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be Thursday at 11:00 am at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet with Rev. Geoffrey Burke officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 pm at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Wednesday (today) from 4-7 pm.
