Obituary for Patricia J. Laiacona

Albany – Patricia J. Laiacona, 70, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on Wednesday, November 30, 2016.

Born in Troy on March 19, 1946, Patricia was the daughter of the late Michael J. and Angela (Caruso) Laiacona. She was raised in Newtonville and was a graduate of the former Keveny Memorial Academy and Sage College.

She loved the art of Judo and devoted her life to it for more than 50 years. Patty was trained in Judo at the Kodokan in Japan and through her determination and hard work was one of only a few women to achieve the Rokudan 6th Dan (Black Belt). Her skill earned her the title of “Sensei Patty” to many who understood and respected her achievement.

Patty had a profound appreciation of fashion, esthetics and food and of all the things she enjoyed nothing was more important or filled her with more pride than did her son Joshua.

In addition to her son, Patty is survived by her loving daughter-in-law, Aubrey Laiacona; her cherished grandson, Jack Michael Laiacona; her dear sister and brother, Geri Ann Laiacona and James (Jeanne) Laiacona; her Aunt Joey; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by the love of her life, Michael Joseph Domkowski.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 2 PM in the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham. Friends are invited and may also visit with Patty’s family on Saturday, prior to the service, from 12 PM until 2 PM.

A private interment will be held in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Community Hospice, Gift Processing Center, 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208 in remembrance of Patricia J. Laiacona.
