Obituary for Alan Emerson Unright

Albany – Alan Emerson Unright, 83, of Albany, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 4, 2016. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late William and Mildred Unright.

Alan spent his youngest years growing up in East Greenbush, following which he was a graduate of Altamont High School. After high school he began working for American Airlines in their fleet services department and as a ticket agent. In 1953 he joined the United States Army and served until 1955. Following his service to our country, Alan then returned to work for American Airlines, as well as doing some plumbing and heating on the side. He remained with the airline for 37 years until his eventual retirement.

When not hard at work, Alan enjoyed many hobbies such as bowling, square dancing, and many outdoor activities with his beloved wife, Joan. Together they enjoyed biking, kayaking, and traveling. A true handyman, there was nothing Alan couldn’t fix. Using skilled craftsmanship, he could make beautiful pieces of furniture with creative woodworking.

Alan is survived by his wife of 31 years, Joan Bausch Unright, his 4 daughters; Kim (Marcus) Owens of Utah, Tammy Unright of Pennsylvania, Jennifer (Jeff) Belchos of Ontario, Canada, and Sheri (Robert) Millis of Pennsylvania, his sister, Carol (Ronald) Graham of Pennsylvania, as well as by 12 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Alan was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Nancy.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 8, 2016 at 11 AM at the Niskayuna Reformed Church. Interment to follow at Memory Gardens, Colonie.
