Obituary for Henry VanDerwerken

Watervliet - Henry VanDerwerken, 87, died Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the Hudson Park Nursing Home in Albany with his sons at his side. He was born in Watervliet on August 5, 1929, son of the late Henry and Mary Bulson.

Employed at the Watervliet Arsenal during the Korean War, he then worked for Watervliet Canvas, and later became a long time Watervliet City Employee.

He had many interests including cars, tools, photography, and history. He was a member of several local historical societies and attended many events and lectures. He sailed aboard the replica of Henry Hudson’s Half Moon upstate to New York City.

He was the beloved husband of 48 years of Val Cicers VanDerwerken; dear brother of Joseph B. (Maureen) VanDerwerken, Sr. of Hudson Falls, the late Michael (Joan) VanDerwerken and the late Mary Louis Decker; proud father of Henry (Erin) VanDerwerken and John VanDerwerken; loving grandfather of Charles Henry VanDerwerken; lifelong friend and cousin of Charles Bulson; proud uncle of Joseph (Amy) VanDerwerken Jr., Michael (Trisha) VanDerwerken, Mary Louise (Peter) Riley, and the late Thomas Decker; proud great-uncle of Pam (Bryon) Riley-Harris, and Lynn (Shari) Riley. He is also survived by many cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 9, 2016 at 10 AM at the Parker Bros. Memorial Funeral Home, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet. Interment will follow in Albany Rural Cemetery. Friends and relatives may visit with Henry’s family for an hour before the service, from 9 until 10 AM.
