WATERVLIET – Helen M. Ashline, 88, passed away at the Eddy Village Green Assisted Living Facility, in Cohoes, on December 30, 2016, after a short illness and a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Born Helen Margaret Kelly on September 10, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Francis M. and Margaret M. (Mullin) Kelly and was the beloved wife of the late Charles W. Ashline who died in 2005. Helen was a life-long resident of Watervliet and of Menands.
She leaves behind her children, William (Colleen) Ashline, Robert (Cynthia) Ashline and Paul (Olga) Ashline as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a devoted mother and wife. Helen was employed as a secretary at Frigidaire following her graduation from high school and later married her childhood sweetheart Charles in 1950. In 1958 she took on the role of receptionist, bookkeeper and “chief cook and bottle washer” for C.W. Ashline Plumbing and Heating Corporation, Inc. in Watervliet. Helen loved to knit, listen to Irish music, play golf and travel. She was a generous giver to charities and will be missed by many.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 8:15 AM from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 9 AM in St. Joan of Arc Church, Menands. The Rite of Committal and interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Friends are invited to attend and may also visit with Helen’s family on Wednesday from 4 until 7 PM at the funeral home.
