Obituary for John P. Dewine

John P.  Dewine
CLEVELAND, OH – John P. Dewine, 62, formerly of Watervliet, NY, died suddenly Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at his home after a brief illness. Born in Troy, NY on July 16, 1954, he is the son of Victoria M. Crispo Dewine and the late Lawrence R. Dewine. John attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Grammar School and Watervliet Junior High School. He was a 1972 graduate of LaSalle Institute in Troy. He later graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester, MA in 1976 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering where he was President of his fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon.
He moved to Cleveland, OH after college and began a 40 year career with Turner Construction Company where he was currently a Vice President and Operations Manager. He loved Cleveland and was a diehard Browns and Cavaliers fan and a New York Yankees fan as well. John was involved in building the arenas and stadiums for all the teams that he loved as well as most of the major buildings in Downtown Cleveland.
John loved his family and was devoted to his family and friends. He always had a willingness to help friends and colleagues succeed.
He is the father of John P. Dewine, II of Brooklyn, NY and Brentt Hardy of Cleveland, OH; brother of MaryEllen (John) Kane of Colonie and Bradenton, FL, Larry (Katie) Dewine of Fairport, NY and Rick Dewine of Bradenton, FL; uncle of Jennifer (Jay) DeSain and their children, Vincent and Guilietta, Jeffrey (Jillian) Dewine and their daughter Lucy and Maggie Dewine; nephew of Rev. Roderick A. Crispo, OFM, Betty Crispo, Carmel Crispo, Mary Grace Warren and the late Jack Dewine, Ben Crispo, Bill Warren, Paul Dewine and Joan Dewine; grandson of the late Paul and Florence Dewine and John and Mary Crispo. He is also survived by several cousins from the Dewine, Crispo and Huberty families.
The funeral mass will be con-celebrated on Friday, January 27th at 10 am at St. Anthony of Padua Shrine Church, 28 State Street, Troy, NY with his Uncle, Rev. Roderick Crispo, OFM as the main celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Troy. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet, NY on Thursday from 4-8 pm.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, February 4 at 9:30am at St. Ladislas Church, 2345 Bassett Rd, Westlake OH 44145 (www.stladislas.org) for his Cleveland friends and colleagues.
