Obituary for Margaret M. Foley

Latham – Margaret M. Foley, 91, entered into eternal life on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at the Eddy Village Green in Cohoes.

Born in Troy, NY on March 21, 1925, Margaret was the daughter of the late Joseph D. and Margaret (Tracy) Foley. She was a Watervliet resident until 1968 when she moved to Latham.

Margaret was a graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy and the College of St. Rose in Albany. She received a master’s degree in library science from the State University of New York at Albany.

Margaret was employed by the Schenectady County Public Library, for 32 years, and retired in 1983 as the Assistant Director of the library.

She was a member of the Secular Order of St. Francis, the American Library Association and was a long-time communicant of the former St. Patrick’s Church in Watervliet where she, at the request of Reverend Erwin H. Schweigardt, was named the first archivist of the church. Margaret was also formerly a volunteer at the Watervliet Public Library.

Margaret was the dear sister of the late Reverend Odoric Foley, OFM, Joseph P. (late Julie) Foley and Robert E. Foley.

She is survived by her loving sister Ann M. DiNuzzo and her husband Philip of Latham; her cherished nieces and nephews, Kathleen Ossip, Mark DiNuzzo, Michael DiNuzzo, Ellen Sauer, Kelle Roberts, Kristin Foley and Patrick Foley as well as three grandnieces and four grandnephews.

Friends are invited to attend Margaret’s Funeral Mass, which will be celebrated by the Reverend Erwin H. Schweigardt, on Wednesday at 10AM in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 7th Avenue at 25th Street, Watervliet. The Rite of Committal and interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watervliet. There will be no public calling hours.
