Obituary for Catherine Theresa Kilcullen (Sobiski)

WATERVLIET – Catherine T. Sobiski Kilcullen, 96, died peacefully Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Teresian House in Albany. Born and raised in Centralia, PA, she was the daughter and one of 8 children of the late John and Margaret Wilchak Sobiski.
Kay lived in New York City for 10 years and was employed at the Governor Clinton Hotel. She was introduced to her husband Richard by her brother Joseph who served in the same platoon with him during World War II. Her brother was later killed in Normandy, France and is buried there.
After her marriage, Kay moved to Watervliet where she raised her family and was a homemaker. She was a proud lifelong Democrat and assisted her late husband Richard who was Albany County Coroner and a Watervliet Democratic Committeman with paperwork. She also worked at Covert Mfg. After her kids were raised, she worked seasonally for the NYS Dept. of Taxation & Finance and at the Watervliet High School in food service.
She was a communicant of the former St. Patrick’s Church in Watervliet where she was a member of the Altar-Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Watervliet AOH Ladies Auxiliary. Kay was a wonderful gardener and cook and loved sharing with her neighbors and friends her tomatoes and vegetables. She also enjoyed bingo.
She was the beloved wife of the late Richard F. Kilcullen who died in 1973; loving mother of Michael J. (Suzanne) Kilcullen of Bradenton, FL, Kathleen R. (Dr. Albert) Palumbo of Williamsville, NY, Rick (Eileen) Kilcullen of Loudonville and David Kilcullen of Watervliet; adored grandmother of Tera Criscione, Kiersten Kilcullen, Caitlin and Jenny Palumbo and Daniel Kilcullen; great grandmother of Jackson Criscione; sister of the late Mary, Helen, Anne, Julia, John, Edward and Joseph. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral mass on Thursday at 11:00 am at the Teresian House in Albany and may call prior to the mass from 10-11 am at the Teresian House. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watervliet.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Teresian House, 200 Washington Avenue Extension, Albany, NY 12203.
