Obituary for Sharon Jean Jerome (Payette)

Sharon Jean (Payette) Acosta Jerome
August 18, 1946 - March 12, 2017

COHOES - Sharon "Sheri" Jean (Payette) Acosta Jerome, 70, entered her eternal rest on March 12, 2017 at Albany Medical Center. She is predeceased by her father, Harvey Edward Payette, and her son, Jeffrey Warren Acosta.

Sharon was a graduate of Shaker High School, class of ’64. She attended Brigham Young University and later nursing school. She worked for the Albany County Nursing Home and Our Lady of Hope. She later became employed in an administrative position by the Watervliet Arsenal. With cutbacks at the Arsenal, she accepted a position at the Portsmouth, Maine Naval Base until her retirement when she returned to New York to be closer to her family. She returned to the nursing field and received her qualifications to work as a home health aid. For the past few years, Sharon used these skills to dutifully assist in the care of mother.

Sharon was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where her most recent calling was serving as a family history center consultant, helping others trace their family’s genealogy. Working on her own family genealogy was a life-long passion for Sharon as well as her eclectic style of art which included developing an unpublished novel called Peaceable Farms, a story about the co-existence of alien life on Earth. She had a strong belief in other worlds and other beings and emphasized that belief in her artwork through “Acosta Productions.”

Sharon is survived by her mother, Jean Elizabeth (Evertsen Payette) McClellan; a sister, Lori (David Belemjian) Payette of Loudonville; two brothers, Gil & Harvey (Darleen) Payette, both of Grafton; two daughters, Jeanie (Mel) Acosta of Halfmoon, NY, and Sgt. Julia (Andrea) Acosta who is currently serving in Germany for the U.S. Army; one grandson, Brett Steele; one granddaughter, Stephanie (Josh Andino) Carroll; one great granddaughter, Iyla Grace Andino; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham on Friday, March 17, at 1:00pm. Relatives and friends are invited and may call prior to the service on Friday from 12:00noon-1:00pm. Interment will be at Memory Gardens, Colonie.

Contributions in lieu of flowers in memory of Sharon Jerome may be made to Bowen & Parker Bros Funeral Home., 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham, NY 12110, to assist with the funeral expenses.
