Obituary for James Donald Farrell

Latham – James Donald Farrell, 68, of Latham, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. Born in Long Island, he was the son of the late Joseph Farrell and Irene Brennan Farrell, who survives.
James grew up on Long Island and was a 1966 graduate of Bayport High School. After graduation he upped his draft and enlisted in the United States Army, serving in the Vietnam War. Working with artillery, James was also a skilled marksman. He was honorably discharged in 1969, receiving multiple medals recognizing his exemplary service to this country, including a medal for heroism, and the Army Accommodation Medal.
Once he returned home from duty, James began working for the phone companies which eventually become Verizon. He worked very hard to provide for his loved ones, and nothing was more important to him than his family and friends. He was never happier than when he was spending time with those who meant the most to him. He had a timely sense of humor that could make anyone chuckle and always seemed to know just what to say.
In his free time James enjoyed many outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, boating, spending time at the beach, going to the ocean, the Adirondacks, and traveling all over; including trips to Chile, Ireland, the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, and Colorado.
James is survived by his loving wife, Lynda Craz Farrell of Latham, his 3 adoring children; Benjamen (Laura) Farrell of Gansevoort, Suzanne (Chris) Marsh of Hoosick Falls, and James (Stephanie) Devery of Watervliet, his grandchildren; Sierra Farrell, Grady Marsh, and Sophia Farrell, his siblings; Pat (John) Reilly, Mike (Julie) Farrell, Brian (Cathy) Farrell, and Jeannie (John) Sirianni, all of whom reside on Long Island, as well as by several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 6:00 PM at Bowen and Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham. Friends and relatives may visit with James’ family before the service, from 4 PM until the service. Interment will take place on Monday at 10:30 AM at Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery. Those who wish to remember James in a special way may make a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517.
