Obituary for Joan F. (Skop) Waz (Tetrault)

Joan Frances Tetrault (Skop) Waz, 79, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, April 11, 2017, at the Newton Wellesley Center for Alzheimer's Care. Born in Troy on September 24, 1937, she was the daughter of George Isaac Tetrault and Marion Catherine Dunham. Joan was a graduate of Watervliet High School. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Joan retired from the New York State Thruway Authority in 1999, where she had served as administrative assistant to the executive director. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Troy. Joan enjoyed traveling the world, creating arts and crafts projects, celebrating holidays, and baking the best apple pie on earth! Joan was predeceased by two wonderful husbands, Joseph F. Skop (20 years) and Peter S. Waz (24 years). Survivors include her loving children, Joan Catherine Tetrault of Hopkinton, Mass. and Stephen J. Skop (Dawn) of Millis, Mass. She was blessed with three beautiful grandchildren who were the light of her life, Isaiah Tetrault Brown, Sofia Rose Skop and Arianna Marie Skop. Additionally, Joan was fortunate to have several stepchildren and grandchildren whom she held dear to her heart. In addition, Joan is survived by two beloved siblings, her brother, Bruce G. Tetrault (Paula) of Colonie and sister, Betty Feldmaier (James) of Latham. She was predeceased by several loving brothers and sisters, George Tetrault (Jeanette), Edward Tetrault (Joan), John Tetrault (Carol), William Tetrault (Tilly), Virginia Quinn (Frank) and Alma Leather (James). Joan was blessed with many good friends and close family members whom she loved very much, including Regina and Michael Helinski of Troy and Carol Hampton Russo of Millis. Joan's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Newton Wellesley Center for Alzheimer's Care and its Family Council for the dedicated support, friendship and unconditional love they provided over the past two years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 18, at 11:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church in Troy. Interment to follow the Mass in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial Funeral Home, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Monday from 4 until 7 p.m. Also, a memorial service will be held at the First Universalist Society in Franklin, Mass., on May 13, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the - MA/NH Chapter, alzmass.org, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
