Obituary for Wayne O'Neill

Wayne Keith O’Neill passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017 peacefully in his sleep at home in Troy, New York. Wayne was born on December 26, 1957 in Brooklyn, New York. Wayne worked at various jobs during his life including building superintendant, MTA and as a cook which he enjoyed thoroughly. Cooking was one of his passions and his specialty was lasagna which he brought to all of our family functions. Wayne loved fishing and would go with his brother Kenneth taking early morning all day fishing trips to Massachusetts. When in the city they would fish off the piers in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn. When he moved up to Troy they would spend the day fishing on the Hudson catching catfish and blues. Wayne also enjoyed movies and an assortment of collections from comic books to African art to pieces of nostalgia. His clothing collection included Kango caps (he had one in just about every color) and an array of shirts second only to Macy’s. In 1980 Wayne met Rhonda Holmes at her place of work, in the same building he lived in Brooklyn. A year later they married in March of 1981 and from their union they had three children. Because of his illness Wayne experienced numerous setbacks in his health. But God brought him through time and time again. One notable testimony occurred last summer when he was placed on life support and not expected to make it. But God pulled him through and as a result he gave his life to the Lord. Because of his big, outgoing personality and sense of humor, wherever he lived or worked Wayne was well known to everyone and will be sorely missed.
Wayne is preceded by his mother, Marion O’Neill, grandmother, Arthur Lee O’Neill and Aunt Delores Brown. He is survived by his siblings Helen Caldwell, Cheryl O’Neill, Mary O’Neill-Winston and Kenneth O’Neill; his children, Nicole, Evane, Yasheeka, Zanatra, Quadrell and Kyefara, a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren and many, many friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 11am – 1pm at Parker Brothers Memorial Funeral Home, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet, NY.
