CLIFTON PARK – Robert J. “Mona” Campbell, 52, formerly of Watervliet, died Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA awaiting a liver transplant. Born in Troy on October 20, 1964, he was the son of the late Edward C. and Marjorie A. Leonard Campbell.
Rob was a graduate of Sacred Heart of Mary School and a 1982 graduate of Watervliet High School. He was a standout basketball player for the Watervliet Cannoneers on the Section II C-CC championship team coached by George Mardigan. He was named the Troy Record Player of the Year in 1982 and was inducted into the Watervliet High School Athletic Hall of Fame with his best friend Jim Chartrand in 2012. He later played two years at Hudson Valley Community College where he graduated with an Associate’s Degree.
Robert worked in the banking and mortgage industry for over 30 years. He began with Marine Midland Bank, NY Business Development Corporation (NYBDC) and Tri-City Funding. He operated his own mortgage business, Colonial Home Finance in Clifton Park for 15 years before joining First Niagara Bank as Vice President of Lending. Most recently, he has been an independent banking consultant with his firm, JLC Consulting in Clifton Park.
He was a member of the Watervliet Civic Center Board of Directors for over 20 years and was a past president of the board. He was a member of the Watervliet Knights of Columbus. He loved sports especially watching his children participate at Shenendehowa High School, following basketball, and traveling to warm weather locations including Myrtle and Sunset Beach.
He is the beloved husband of Tina M. Tokarchuk Campbell whom he married in 1992; devoted father of Liam E. Campbell and Jaime L. Campbell; dear brother of James (Patricia) Campbell of Newtonville, Paul (Connie) Campbell of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Edward (Susan) Campbell of Sunset Beach, NC, Mark (Charlene) Campbell of East Greenbush and the late Fred “Coach” Campbell; son in law of Edward and Linda Tokarchuk of Saratoga Springs; brother in law of Paul (Tiffany) Tokarchuk of Clifton Park. Rob is also survived by many nieces and nephews, his cherished friends from Watervliet, friends from near and far and his great neighbors in Clifton Park.
The family would like to acknowledge the exceptional people that gave such great care to Rob at the ICU at St. Peter’s Hospital and at Mass General in Boston.
The funeral will be Thursday at 9 am from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 10 am at St. Mary’s Church, 86 Church Hill Road, Crescent. Interment Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-8 pm.
