LATHAM - Katina Semon, age 77, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2017. She was raised in Kavalla Greece in the village of Zygos.
On July 6, 1958 Katina married John Semon of Troy, NY. They moved back to America where they were long-time residents of Latham, NY.
Katina worked as a cook for SUNY Albany for many years. She worked with her daughter Kathy and prepared food in Katarina’s Café. She enjoyed helping her family as well as total strangers. She donated to many charities; her favorite being cancer organizations. She was loved by everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her husband John Semon, her daughter Kathy Papadopoulos with her husband Constantine (Gus); her son Chris Siemonidis with his wife Crystal, and her grandchildren Matthew and Lilly.
Also surviving Katina are her sister Lula Mavromati; her brother Paris Zahapolous with his wife Fotini; her sister Elizabeth Ilyadis; as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents Nickos and Chrissoula Zahapolous; and her brothers Vasilios (Bill) and Simos (Simon).
Viewing will be on Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 6-8 pm at the Bowen and Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham. The funeral service will be on Friday, June 30, 2017 at 12:00 pm at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 440 Whitehall Road, Albany. Father Philip Begley will be officiating. The burial will be at Elmwood Hill Cemetery in Troy.
