Obituary for Margaret A. Tanner (Goodermote)

BERLIN – Margaret A. Goodermote Tanner, 80, died peacefully Monday, July 17, 2017 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Cherry Plain on September 15, 1936, the daughter of the late Lewis and Addie Carr Goodermote.
Margaret was a graduate of Berlin Central School. She was employed by RPI in Troy as the secretary to the Dean of Sciences and later was a teller for the Taconic Valley Bank in Berlin. In 1962 following the birth of her son Henry, she stopped working to raise her three children and was a homemaker.
For over 30 years, she was an election poll inspector in Cherry Plain which she loved to do. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Berlin where she was a Sunday School Teacher, Deaconess and treasurer.
She enjoyed gardening, ceramics, decorating and was an excellent cook and baker.
She was the beloved wife of the late Henry C. Tanner, Jr. who died October 10, 2016; loving mother of Henry C. (Jan) Tanner, III of Center Berlin, Sandra J. (Kevin) Billert of Grafton and Julie T. (Shane) Riccardi of Berlin; adored grandmother of Matthew Henry Tanner, Tanner James Billert and Kasey Dylan Billert; dear sister of Luella Hoffman, Elmer (Sylvia) Goodermote, Shirley (Robert) Oswald, Lewis (Connie) Goodermote, Joyce (Gary) Maxfield all of Cherry Plain and the late Leo and Lloyd Goodermote, Loretta Taylor and Mary Jean Brazie. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Berlin, 15 North Main Street, Berlin with Pastor Peter Seide officiating. Interment will follow in the Berlin Community Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the First Baptist Church of Berlin on Friday from 4:30-7:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Berlin, 15 North Main Street, Berlin, NY 12022 or to the Berlin Rescue Squad, PO Box 269, Berlin, NY 12022.
