Obituary for Carlos Guillermo Santiago Jr.

Watervliet – Carlos Guillermo Santiago, II, 55, of Watervliet passed away at his home on Thursday, September 14, 2017.

After high school Carlos joined the US Coast Guard aboard the USCGC Midgett (WHEC-726). Once he left active duty he remained in the US Navy Reserve. Upon returning home from service he began working for the New York State Teacher’s Retirement System where the only thing he enjoyed more than his job were the friends he made working there.

When not at work Carlos enjoyed deep sea fishing, gardening, listening to all genres of music, cooking, and sports. His time spent stationed with the Coast Guard in Seattle turned him into a die-hard Seattle Seahawks fan. Nothing made him happier, however, than spending time with his granddaughter, Kendall, by whom he was affectionately known as “Bop Bop”. Carlos truly was a people person and would make friends wherever he went. He had a charming personality and sense of humor that could lift any room. He will be sorely missed by those who were lucky enough to have known him.

Carlos is survived by his parents; Carlos Santiago, Sr. and Isabel Chivinski, both of North Carolina, his loving daughters; Stefanie (Talas Rogers) Santiago of Atlanta, and Jennifer (Tommy Boshea) Santiago of Albany, his granddaughter, Kendall Boshea, his sisters; Barbara Maryon of Florida, and Debra Santiago of Colonie, his dear friend and mother to his children, Pauline Santiago, and close friends; Michelle Anderson, Andy (Melissa) Beil, Dave and Di Costello, and Barbie O’Brien. His memory also lives on in several nieces and nephews, and many friends and neighbors. Carlos was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kiera Santiago Vincent.

A memorial visitation will be held Friday, September 22, 2017 from 4 until 7 PM at the Bowen and Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham.
