Obituary for Janet Barbara Christie (Weingartner)

Troy – Janet Barbara Christie, 84, died peacefully at Samaritan Hospital on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Troy, Janet was raised in Watervliet, the daughter of Anton and Alice Weingartner. She was pre-deceased by her brothers, Norman and Gordon Weingartner.
Janet was a graduate of Catholic Central High School. She was employed by the New York Telephone Company and then became a homemaker for many years to raise her three children. She later returned to work and, for 15 years, was employed by the New York State Department of Parks and Recreation from where she retired in 1995.
Janet was especially proud of her home and loved to decorate for each and every season. Her friends at Boscov’s and the Christmas Tree Shop will miss her. She loved to spend hours shopping at her two favorite stores. She especially loved the Christmas holidays and spending time with family.
Janet was the beloved wife of Robert “Bob” Christie and together they would have soon celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary; loving mother of Paul (Eleanor) Christie, Sue (Tim) Kirsch and Norman (WeiChi) Christie; adored grandmother of Andrew Christie, Maura Christie and Kent Christie; dear sister of Don Weingartner of Troy; loving aunt to Leslie (John) Farrell of Queensbury as well as many other nieces and nephews both near and far.
Janet’s family wishes to give special thanks to the nurses on the 6th floor of Samaritan Hospital for their special care during her last days.
Janet’s funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Randall Patterson on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 9:30 am in Our Lady of Victory Church, 55 North Lake Avenue, Troy. Interment will follow at 11:30 am in the Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Friends are invited to attend all services and are also invited to join with Janet’s family on Friday at 1pm at a reception to be held at McGreivey’s Restaurant, 91 Broad Street (Route 32) in Waterford immediatley following the interment.
In lieu of flowers, Janet’s family suggests that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 33 Elk Street, Albany, NY 12207 in her memory.
