Obituary for Jean H. Halpin

Jean H.  Halpin
WATERVLIET – Jean H. Halpin, 84, died peacefully Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany with her loving family at her side. Jean was born in Troy on May 23, 1933, the daughter of the late William and Rose Riley Halpin.
Jean was raised in Watervliet and graduated from St. Brigid’s School and Catholic Central High School in Troy, class of 1950.
She was employed by the NYS Education Department prior to her marriage. After raising her family, she was employed by Key Corp in Albany for 10 years as an administrative assistant and by the NYS Assembly for 7 years before retiring.
Jean was an avid reader and enjoyed playing golf and Tai Chi. She volunteered her time with Community Hospice and at St. Joseph’s Provincial House. But above all, Jean’s children and grandchildren were the light of her life.
She was the beloved wife of the late William J. Halpin who died in 1990 and William D. Nash who died in 2012; loving mother of Marybeth (Fred) Snyder of Latham, Colleen Gardner of Suffern, NY, Sherry (Richard) Foglia of Watervliet, Ellen (John) Quinn of Niskayuna, William J. Halpin, Jr. of Hudson, WI, Joanne (Todd) Kiernan of Saratoga Springs, Jeanne (Tom) Deguire of Loudonville, Julie (David) Lilenfeld of Atlanta, GA and Amy (Matt) Riley of Shelburne, VT; adored grandmother of 18 grandchildren; sister of the late Thomas Halpin; cousin of Sr. Sara Cannon and Sally Dorn; also survived by two sister in laws and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham with Rev. Geoffrey Burke, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watervliet. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Sunday from 3-6 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated to the Community Hospice Foundation, to benefit Palliative Care, Gift Processing Center, 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208.
