Obituary for Charles G. "Chuck" Baldwin

WEST SAND LAKE – Charles “Chuck” Gilbert Baldwin, 89, died Friday, October 27, 2017 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. Born in the family homestead on Craig Street in Maplewood on January 14, 1928, he was the son of the late Charles Stylus (Todd) Baldwin and Delia Jewett Baldwin.
Chuck was a graduate of Maplewood School and Watervliet High School. He was a veteran of the US Army and the US Army Air Force from 1945-1948 serving in Europe, primarily in Schlossberg, Austria.
Upon returning home, he studied chemistry at RPI and attended night school at Siena College.
He was employed by Behr-Manning/ Norton Company in Watervliet for over 30 years as a laboratory technician. He later was employed for 10 years by Belanger, Inc. in Northville, Michigan as Vice-President of Abrasive Manufacturing.
He was a life member of the Watervliet VFW, member of the American Legion in Delmar, Albany County Pistol Club, Hendrick Hudson Fish & Game, the Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association and the South Albany Flying Club.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, flying, cooking and gardening and was an avid reader.
He is the beloved father of Robert C. (Elizabeth) Baldwin of Glenmont, Steven T. Baldwin of Troy and the late Richard L. Baldwin; proud grandfather of Robert Charles (Courtney) Baldwin, Jr., Megan Elizabeth Baldwin, Steven Charles Baldwin and Brianna Lyn Baldwin; great grandfather of Jackson Robert-Anthony Baldwin; brother of Margaret Ridolfo of Hampton Falls, NH. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to especially thank the staff of the McAuley 2 Critical Care Unit of St. Peter’s Hospital for the care, compassion and commitment they extended to our father and family during this difficult time.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Wednesday, November 1st from 4-7 pm.
