Obituary for Stephen Thomas Haner

San Francisco, CA – Stephen Thomas Haner, 46, died on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 following a
brief illness, with his family by his side.

Stephen was born in Troy on July 18, 1971 and was the son of Christine M. (Blair) Adkins of Watervliet and Thomas E. Haner of Vermilion, Ohio. He was raised in Watervliet where he attended St. Patrick’s Elementary School (Watervliet Catholic) and graduated with honors, in 1989, from Catholic Central High School in Troy. He attended HVCC and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served his country honorably both in the United States and in Panama.

Stephen returned home from service and attended radio school in Albany. He was employed as a producer by PYX 106 in Albany for 15 years. He also worked for radio stations in Cincinnati and Alabama before moving to San Francisco four years ago.

Stephen had a love for Classic Rock and Roll and was a fan of the NY Yankees, NY Giants, NY Rangers and the San Francisco Giants. He had served as a volunteer with the Special Olympics while serving in the Air Force.

In addition to his parents, Stephen is survived by his brother, Brian E. Haner of Vermilion, OH; his former wife, Eileen (Fedory) Haner of Averill Park and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was pre-deceased by his paternal grandparents, Ruth and Thomas Haner and his maternal grandparents, Catherine and Frank H. Blair; and his step father, John T. “Jack” Adkins.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 am from the Parker Bros. Memorial and at 10 am in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 25th Street and 7th Avenue, Watervliet where the funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Reverend John F. Tallman. Interment will follow, with military honors, at 12 pm in the Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery. Friends are invited and may also visit with Stephen’s family on Tuesday from 4 until 7 pm. In recognition of the care he received and to benefit other veterans, Stephen’s family requests that donations be made to the San Francisco VA Medical Center, 4150 Clement Street, (135), San Francisco, CA 94121 in his memory.
