Obituary for Sandra E. Richardson (Van Alstyne)

Sandra E. Richardson (Van Alstyne)
COLONIE – Sandra E. VanAlstyne Richardson, 69, transitioned peacefully to be with the Lord early Friday morning, November 17, 2017 while at home. Born in Hudson, NY on July 8, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Bertha Cooley VanAlstyne. She was raised and educated in Hudson and was a graduate of Hudson High School.

She later moved to Troy and was employed by Tek-Hughes in Watervliet as a machine operator for over 30 years and later retired from CMP Industries in Menands 6 years ago. She enjoyed playing softball, bowling, and loved to entertain at cookouts at her home.

September 27, 1994, Sandra married George Richardson. They began attending Redemption Church of Christ in Watervliet. She was baptized in Jesus Name in August 17, 2008 and was a member of the Redemption Church of Christ in Watervliet for nearly 10 years. She attended church services, prayer meetings, and participated actively in the Women of Faith auxiliary where she could be found at the “seniors table” at meetings.

Although retired from her job, she adopted a new vocation and was a faithful volunteer at Redemption Christian Academy in Troy. She began by volunteering with RCA’s Goodway Bakery which helps support RCA’s scholarship fund. She also cooked and served meals in the cafeteria, taught “her children”, and passionately dedicated her time at the school. She particularly loved serving meals to students and staff and knew exactly what each one liked to eat.

When Sandra became ill, she maintained an energetic, joyful spirit that was contagious and positively impacted those who met her. Trusting God throughout her journey, never complaining, she always wore an affectionate smile. She was so vibrant during her illness that she even carried her walker at times!

Sandra is the beloved wife of 28 years of George Richardson; loving mother of Latasha Collins of Colonie; adored grandmother of Terrell Gene Collins and Devon Michael Collins; dear sister of Rose, Malcom and Thomas VanAlstyne and was predeceased by 14 siblings. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

The Homegoing Service will be Friday, November 24th at 11 a.m. at Redemption Church of Christ, 1511 6th Avenue, Watervliet with a calling hour prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Redemption Christian Academy, PO Box 753, Troy, NY 12181.

Arrangements are by the Parker Bros. Memorial in Watervliet.
