Obituary for Rose Mary Olsey (Hoefer)

Latham – Rose Mary Olsey, 94, passed away peacefully at home on December 14, 2017, with her loving family by her side. Born September 5, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Florian and Margaret Hoefer.
Rose was one of 8 children raised at the same home in Latham, which was a family-run farm for many years. From a young age she was put to work on the farm, giving her the work ethic that helped her become the matriarch of her family which she cared for greatly. When not hard at work, Rose enjoyed Bingo, Pinochle, and trips to the casino. She was a member of the Lathamettes Bowling League, a Columbiette in the Latham Knights of Columbus, and a dedicated communicant of St. Ambrose Church.
Rose is survived by her 4 daughters; Margaret “Peggy” (Richard) Siddons of Speigletown, Rose (Ronald) Brand of Latham, Catherine Brand of Bunnell, FL, and Barbara (Thomas) Morrissey of Latham, her sisters; Mary (late Gilbert) Stanton of Latham, and Sr. Catherine Hoefer of Syracuse, 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and by several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Olsey, who passed in 1990, and by 5 of her siblings and their spouses; Robert (Lavada) Hoefer, William (Doris) Hoefer, Dorothy (Joseph) Storms, Jane (Emory) Wallace, and John (Theresa) Hoefer.
A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, December 19, 2017, 9:15 AM from the funeral home, 10 AM at St. Ambrose Church, Latham. Interment to follow in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 4 until 7 PM at Bowen and Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham. Those who wish to remember Rose in a special way may consider a donation to St. Ambrose Church, the Latham Knights of Columbus, or Community Hospice.
