WATERFORD – James Ahearn, 68, died on Friday, December 29, 2017 in St. Peter’s Community Hospice Inn in Albany.

Born in Bronx, NY on March 1, 1949, James was the son of Patricia (Colligan) Peters and the late James Ahearn. He spent his early years in the Bronx and later moved to Long Island.

Following high school, James enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country honorably for four years. He returned home to Long Island and joined the Nassau County Police Department where he was employed for many years. At the time of his retirement he had achieved the rank of Lieutenant.

In his retirement years, James enjoyed spending time at home and with his family, travelling and rooting on his beloved NY Giants.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Ahearn; his children, Daniel and Alicia Ahearn and Katherine Striplin (Ian); his step-children, Marc Berto (Janine) and Vincent Berto (Jenna); his brothers, William Ahearn(Lorraine), David Daly (Amy), Daniel Daly and Dennis Daly (Laurie). He is also survived by four grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for James on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 10 am in St. Mary’s Church, Crescent. Friends are invited to attend. Interment will be held in the Saratoga National Cemetery at a later date. There will be no public visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember James in a special way may donate to either the Salvation Army or to the American Cancer Society in his memory.
