Obituary for Ralph Randio

Albany – Ralph Randio, 92, a much loved husband, brother and uncle, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the Teresian House.

Born in Coeymans on July 19, 1925, Ralph was raised and educated there and was the son of the late Frank and Madeline (Chainese) Randio. Shortly after his graduation from high school, Ralph enlisted in the U.S. Army to serve his country during World War II. He served with the 8th Infantry in Europe and fought in Normandy, Northern France and in the Rhineland. On April 11, 1946, he was honorably discharged and awarded the American Theater Ribbon, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Ribbon. He returned home from service and soon after was married to his beloved wife, Marie (Brand) Randio and together they enjoyed more than 68 years of marriage before her passing on August 29, 2016.

Ralph worked for 50 years as a plumber and was a member of UA Local 7, Plumbers and Steamfitters Union in Albany.

A devout Catholic and a man of deep religious faith, Ralph demonstrated his faith each end every day by participating in nocturnal adoration at various places of worship, attending Mass daily, and in more recent years viewing it on the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN), and delivering food to the poor and those who were shut in. In his retirement years Ralph enjoyed the comfort of his home, and was dedicated to his wife and his family.

Ralph’s family would like express a special and heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff of the Teresian House, especially Desiree, Geraldine, Anthony, Sara and Kathy for the dedicated and loving care given to Ralph during his stay. We will forever be grateful.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Ralph was pre-deceased by his sisters and his brothers, Carrie Palmer, Anthony Randio, Josephine Iorio, Vincent Randio, Catherine Randio, Bertram Randio, Patsy Randio, Frank Randio, Jr., Theresa Fox, Liburda Judware and Nancy Mavencik.

He is survived by his loving brother and sister, Sam (Jean) Randio and Susan Legg; his dear niece and nephew, to whom he was a father-like figure, Donna Hartman Jones (Brian) and James Brand (Marianne) as well as many other loving and caring nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. Ralph is further survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Brand Strazza and his dear friend, Mikey Colletti.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated for Ralph on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 11 am in the Infant of Prague Chapel of the Teresian House, 200 Washington Avenue Extension, Albany. Friends are invited to attend and may also visit with Ralph’s family, prior to the Mass, in the Williamsburg Room of the Teresian House, (adjacent to the chapel) on Monday, from 10 am until 11 am. Interment, with military honors, will be held at 2 pm, in the Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery.

In the latter years of his life, Ralph took comfort in watching daily Mass on television as provided by EWTN. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests donations to the Eternal Word Television Network, 5817 Old Leeds Road, Irondale, AL, 35210 in his memory.
