WATERVLIET – Peggy Joyce VanWert Marx, 72, formerly of Mechanicville, died peacefully Saturday, January 20, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Schaghticoke on March 26, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Marguerite Yates VanWert. Peggy was raised and educated in Schaghticoke and resided in Mechanicville before moving to Watervliet 16 years ago.
She was employed by American Linen in Stillwater, and was a bookkeeper for several car dealerships including Izzo’s Chrysler & Plymouth in Mechanicville for 20 years, Albany Dodge, Lazare Lincoln Mercury and Clifton Park Dodge World before retiring.
While her kids were growing up, she was active in the Mechanicville-Stillwater Youth Little League, Mechanicville Soccer Club and the Mechanicville High School Wrestling Booster Club. She currently is a member of the Board of Directors of the Watervliet Senior Citizens Center and an active member.
Peggy enjoyed reading especially newspapers, crossword puzzles, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, and watching sports on TV including European Soccer. Her favorite TV shows were Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She enjoyed going to the Senior Center every day to tell a joke or to make someone smile.
She was the wife of the late Lewis W. Marx who died in 1988; loving mother of Eric (Carol) Marx of Gansevoort and Andrea (Paul) Hughes of Watervliet; adored grandmother of Shelbie Hughes, Spencer Marx, Katlynn Hughes and Nathan Marx; sister of Ina (Frank) Frisino of PA, Sherry Weeks of Troy, Gary (Penny) VanWert of VA and the late Alice Farina, Noreen Corp, Phyllis, Gordon, Brian, Richard, Thomas, Alfred and Francis VanWert. She is also survived by a close cousin, Kathy DeVoe of Ft. Edward and several other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on TUESDAY, January 23rd from 4-6 pm followed by the funeral service at 6 pm. Interment will be in the spring in Elmwood Cemetery, Schaghticoke.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Watervliet Senior Citizens Center, 1501 Broadway, Watervliet, NY 12189.
