WATERVLIET – Domenica J. Razzano Krakat, 92, died peacefully Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy with her loving family at her side. Born in Watervliet on May 10, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Mary Grace DeRosa Razzano.
A lifelong resident of Watervliet, Domenica attended Watervliet High School and left school early to help raise her brothers and sister. During World War II, she made Army blankets in Cohoes. She also worked at Covert Manufacturing and Brooks Dairy both in Watervliet while raising her seven children. Domenica returned to school in her early 40’s to receive her GED.
After her children were raised, she returned to work as the cafeteria manager at Watervliet High School where she was employed for over 20 years before retiring. She also was a presenter in continuing education courses in Cafeteria Management.
She was an active communicant of the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and served as a member of the St. Ann’s Guild where she was president in 1964, the Rosary Society and was a bazaar worker. She was a member of the Watervliet Senior Citizens and the McDonald’s Coffee Club.
She was a devout Catholic and attended mass every day and currently was a communicant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish. She enjoyed traveling and made friends everywhere she went. Above all else, she was a proud mother and referred to her children as her “Crown Jewels”.
She was the wife of the late George Krakat, Sr. who died in 2002; devoted and loving mother of Carl G. Krakat (Stacey Dunning) of Troy, James M. (Regina) Krakat of Rotterdam, Mary Anne (Fred) Smith of Ballston Lake, George (Karen) Krakat, Jr. of Colonie, Joanne (late Gary) Graber of Rotterdam, David R. (Doreen) Krakat of Colonie, Michelle (Matthew) Brown of Watervliet and the late Diane Krakat; adored grandmother of David, Lisa, James, Rachel, Rebecca, Andrew, Nathan, Erica, Jessica, David, Jr., Ian, Hannah and the late Daniel, Robert and Jonathan; dear sister of Mary (late James) Parker of Latham, Vincent (Janet) Razzano of Watervliet and the late Anthony and John Razzano; sister in law of Doris Razzano of Watervliet and the late Mary Adams Razzano. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral mass will be Monday at 10:00 am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Watervliet with the Rev. Donald Rutherford officiating. Interment will follow in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 12 noon. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Sunday from 3-6 pm.
