Obituary for Carolyn D. Proctor (Kulka)

Watervliet – Carolyn D. (Kulka) Proctor, 70, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Samaritan Hospital with her loving family by her side.

Born on June 1, 1947 in Greenpoint, Brooklyn to Joseph and Stella (Kula) Kulka, Carolyn resided in Brooklyn, with her family, for several years before relocating to Watervliet. She was a member of the graduating class of 1965 of Watervliet High School. She later furthered her education at HVCC where she earned an associate’s degree in human services.

Carolyn was initially employed by the New York Telephone Company and Marine Midland Bank. In 1980 she took employment with the Watervliet City School District as a teacher’s assistant and ESL instructor in the high school. After 29 years in the classroom, Carolyn retired but her work was not done. In retirement she took great pride and pleasure in assisting her granddaughters with their school work.

Education was only one of Carolyn’s many interests. She appreciated her Polish heritage and attended polka dances whenever the opportunity presented itself. She passed along her love of Polish culture to her children and grandchildren.

Carolyn was a communicant of the former Immaculate Conception Church in Watervliet and a member of its Social Committee and Polish Choir. She was a card carrying member of NICAP (National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena). She loved to travel and spent many summer days with her family at Hampton Beach, NH. She was also known to make a few wild visits to the Boardwalk at Atlantic City as well as to Las Vegas, NV to further her enjoyment of the casino atmosphere.

She was the much loved wife of Archie J. Proctor with whom she would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on February 24th.

In addition to her husband, Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Tina L. Proctor-Leibach and her husband Steve; her son, Adam M. Proctor; her granddaughters, Karina and Julia; her aunt, Teresa Hills; her cousin, Michael Kosinski as well as numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins.

A heartfelt thank you is extended to the doctors, nurses and staff of the ICU at Samaritan Hospital for the care given to Carolyn and the support offered to her family during her stay.

Her funeral will be held on Friday at 9:30 am from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 10 am in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Church, 25th Street and 7th Avenue, Watervliet. The Rite of Committal will take place in the chapel of the Albany Rural Cemetery and following cremation, Carolyn’s ashes will be interred in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Colonie at a later date. Friends are invited to attend and may also visit with Carolyn’s family on Thursday from 4 until 8 pm at the funeral home.
