Obituary for Mary Jane Butler
Troy - Mary Jane Butler, age 88, died on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Eddy Village Green, surrounded by her friends who became her family. She was born and raised in Troy, and was the beloved daughter and only child of Charles M. “Chick” and Mary Day Butler.
Mary Jane spent her early years in the Beman Parks area. She was a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church, serving for a time as a Eucharistic Minister. She was a graduate of Catholic Central High School class of 1947. She was also a graduate of Mildred Elley Secretarial School, and attended Russell Sage College in the evening.
She began her career at the NYS Dept. of Education and, through promotions, joined the staff of the State University of NY, central headquarters in 1953. She remained at SUNY until her retirement in 1984. She was Secretarial Assistant to the Executive Vice Chancellor at the time of her retirement. Her late years were spent living at High Pointe then at Beechwood Retirement Community, both in Troy.
A memorial mass will be held Saturday, February 17, at 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Victory Church, Troy. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Those who wish to remember Mary Jane in a special way may consider a donation to a charity of one’s choice in her memory.
