Obituary for Edward J. Ogden

WATERVLIET – Edward J. Ogden, 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 15, 2018 surrounded by his huge, loving family at his son Ed’s home in Watervliet.
He was born on May 13, 1926 and lived his entire life in his beloved Watervliet. He graduated from Watervliet High School in 1944,
He joined his loving wife of 65 years, Emily May Ogden, who passed only 4 days earlier.
Survivors include his children, Eddie (Deb Schnare), Karen Ogden-O’Connell (Paul), Bill (Tammy), Sue Ogden-Leggett (Mark), Ann Ogden-McDonough (Ned) and John (Beth); his grandchildren, Jen Ogden, Lauren Corcoran, Ryan O’Connell, Kathryn O’Connell, Rory Schmit, Kelsey Govel, Sean Ogden, Casey Ogden, Kerry Leggett, Bryan Leggett, Matt McDonough, Jillian McDonough, Shayla Ogden and Kelly Ogden; his great grandchildren, Cayden Billings and Derek Corcoran.
Ed was predeceased by his parents Elizabeth and John Ogden; his brother Tom (late Alice) Ogden and is survived by his dear brother, Jack (Helen) Ogden.
Ed served in the 75th Infantry Division of the US Army during World War II from Sept. 1944 to June 1946. He saw 3 months of combat in Holland and Germany.
After the war Ed went back to work at the Watervliet Arsenal, where he would meet his bride May. He retired from the Arsenal in June of 1981 and enjoyed many years of retirement.
He was an avid NY Giants and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was a simple man who simply loved his family.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to his primary physician Dr. Charles Trout, nurse Shannon and the entire staff at Prime Care Physicians for their attentive care over the years.
A combined funeral mass for Ed and May will be celebrated on Monday, March 19 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham with Rev. John F. Tallman officiating. There are no public calling hours. Interment for both will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
In honor of Ed’s love for children and baseball, contributions would be appreciated to the Watervliet Little League, PO Box 31, Watervliet, NY 12189.
