Obituary for Antoinette C. "Ann" Wickes (Gurbey)

STILLWATER – Antoinette “Ann” C. Wickes, 79, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 16, 2018 with her family at her side. Born in Troy on December 7, 1938, she was the daughter of the late John and June Rogers Gurbey.
Ann was raised in Green Island and was educated at Heatly School. For the first 18 years of her life, Ann was in and out of different hospitals because of Polio. She was a Poster Child for the March of Dimes.
Ann lived in Boght Corners, Clifton Park, Latham and moved to Stillwater in 1978. She was a homemaker who often watched kids at her home and also worked part time in the Admissions Office at SUNY Albany.
She enjoyed visits to the Racino playing slots, bingo, crocheting and knitting and was a lifelong NY Yankees fan.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Stephen Sgambati, Jr. and her home care aides that became close friends, including Marilyn, Jackie, Kathy, Nancy Jo, Christine, Deanna, Sherry and Algiers, for their wonderful care.
She was the beloved wife of 41 years of the late E. Robert Wickes whom she married on July 4, 1959; loving mother of Chris (Edie) Wickes of Stillwater, Susan (Sally Gangell) Wickes of Saratoga Springs, Lori (late Michael) Handerhan of Stillwater and Michelle (Robert) Silverberg of Smithtown, Long Island; adored grandmother of Madison (Matthew) Ramnes, Kristen (Myles) Mohan, Kara Handerhan (Carl DiVeglia, III), Shawn Handerhan, Zachary and Emily Silverberg; great grandmother of Camryn and Brayden Ramnes and Cole Mohan; dear sister of Shirley (Lawrence) Sullivan, Patricia (Tom) McWilliams, Veronica (late Peter) Trembly and the late John (Margaret) Gurbey. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be Wednesday at 10 am at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet with burial following in Memory Gardens, Colonie. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 pm.
