Obituary for Nancy A. Derico (Coughlin)

Nancy A. Derico (Coughlin)
WATERVLIET – Nancy A. Coughlin Derico, 81, died peacefully at home on Thursday, May 10, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Nunda, NY on February 2, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Robert M. and Catherine A. Nelson Coughlin.
She attended Nunda High School for 3 years and graduated from Bethlehem Central High School. She was in the first graduating class of the newly built Albany Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1958.
She was employed as a registered nurse at Albany Memorial Hospital serving as the midnight charge nurse in the Emergency Room for over 30 years before retiring in 1990. In retirement, she was the school nurse at the Watervliet Elementary School.
Nancy enjoyed crocheting, arts & crafts, antiquing, and sold floral arrangements and ceramics at flea markets. She was an avid NY Yankees fan and always was in the front row at her grandchildren’s sporting events shouting out encouragement to the kids.
She was the beloved wife of the late Samuel D. Derico who died May 23, 2017; loving mother of Daniel A. (Patty) Derico of Latham, Robert S. (Tammy Spiak) Derico of Maplewood and Nancy C. (John) Holland of Troy; proud grandmother of Angela and Samuel Derico, Kathryn and Robert M. Derico, Joseph and Casey Konicek; dear sister of Roberta K. (Roderick) Cripps of Delmar. Also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to Nancy’s niece, Jennifer Manziano, Robbin and Deb from Community Hospice and Nancy’s personal physician, Dr. Robert Busch for the compassionate care they gave to our mom.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Monday from 4-7 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family strongly suggests contributions be made to The Community Hospice, 315 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208 or to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12204.
