Obituary for Anna M. "Sissy" Passonno (Ashline)

WATERVLIET – Anna M. “Sissy” (Ashline) Passonno, 88, entered into eternal life, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy.

Born in Troy on August 17, 1929, Anna was the daughter of the late Charles W. Ashline, Sr. and Anna Murphy Ashline.

She resided in the Port Schuyler section of Watervliet for most of her life where she was a graduate of the former St. Brigid’s Grammar School. Anna was a member of the graduating class of 1947 of Catholic Central High School. She was dedicated to raising her family and tending to her home. She later took employment with the State of New York, retiring from Higher Education Services in 1994.

While working for the State she met and later married her husband, Robert W. Passonno and they enjoyed 55 years together until his passing in 2005.

Anna was a member of the former St. Brigid’s Church in Watervliet, now the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish where she was a member of the Altar-Rosary Society. In earlier years she enjoyed volunteering as a bingo worker and working at the St. Brigid’s annual bazaar. An avid bingo player, Anna enjoyed playing and introduced her grandchildren to the game. She was a member of the Watervliet Elks Lodge # 1500 Ladies Auxiliary, Watervliet Senior Center, Menands Senior Citizens and the Schulyer ParkWelfare Society where she served as an officer.

She loved the ocean and enjoyed casino trips and spending summers, with her family, at Cape Cod and in Wildwood, NJ

A special thank you is offered to the doctors, nurses and staff of the 5th floor of Samaritan Hospital and to the Watervliet Fire Department for the dedicated and loving care and support offered to Anna and her family.

Anna was the beloved mother of Robert K. (Ellen) Passonno of Watervliet, Janice M. (T.J.) Jackson of North Greenbush and the late Karen P. Layman who is survived by her husband Robert of Clifton Park; the cherished grandmother of Kevin Layman, William, Michele, David and Daniel Passonno, Renee and Marissa Jackson; the adoring G.G. of Kathryn Layman; the devoted sister of Henry (Carole) Ashline of Tamarac and the late Charles W. (late Helen) Ashline, Jr. She was the cherished Aunt Sissy to several nieces and nephews and is further survived by several cousins and dear and devoted friends.

Anna’s funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 am from the Parker Bros. Memorial in Watervliet and at 10 am in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Watervliet where her funeral Mass will be celebrated.
