Obituary for Romano Sandomenico

Romano  Sandomenico
LOUDONVILLE – Romano Sandomenico, 76, died peacefully at home on Sunday, October 21, 2018.
Born in Ruzici, Istria, Italy on March 4, 1942, he was the son of the late Giovionni and Giovionna (Ruzic) Sandomenico. Romano attended high school and trade school in Italy and served in the Yugloslavian Navy.
In 1966 Romano came to the United States and settled in Troy and later moved to Loudonville. He was employed by Streck Manufacturing for 12 years, Al Tech Specialty Steel for 21 years, Watervliet Arsenal and Mohawk Innovative Technology (MIT) in Colonie where he worked for 5 years in Research & Development before retiring in 2004.
Romano is a communicant of St. Pius X Church in Loudonville and a member of the Colonie Elks Lodge.
Romano did a lot of youth volunteering. In 1981, he organized the Loudonville School Soccer Program, coached at St. Pius X School, served as president of Latham Circle Soccer, coached soccer at Shaker High School and was a referee for boys & girls soccer at various levels. He played soccer for the Sons of Italy and Halfmoon.
Romano loved animals, was a superb gardener, bowler and avid golfer getting a hole in one in 2005. Family was important to Romano and he cherished those special times together.
He is the beloved husband of Irene A. Guileanelli Sandomenico; devoted father of Maria Sandomenico (Douglas Proscia) of Brooklyn and Christopher Sandomenico of Greensboro, NC; brother of Albina Jelaca, Eleanora Martincic and Maria Brezac all of Croatia, Bruna (Josip) Nizi of Waterloo, Canada and the late John Karlo (Mariza) Sandomenico and Mira (late Anthony) Faraguna. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral mass will be Saturday at 10 am at St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonville. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at St. Pius X Church on Saturday prior to the mass from 9-10 am. Entombment will follow in the American Saints Mausoleum at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
