Obituary for David A. Baker

WATERVLIET – David A. Baker, 78, died Thursday, November 1, 2018 at St. Peter’s Hospital. Born in Paul Smiths, NY on March 16, 1940, he was the son of the late Irwin and Margaret Williams Baker.
He was raised and educated in Paul Smiths and later moved to Albany. Following his marriage he moved to Watervliet in 1960.
Dave was employed by the New York State Court of Appeals as the supervisor of maintenance for over 20 years before retiring in 1997.
Dave was a master woodworker. He was the proud owner of a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air, which was his pride and joy. He enjoyed country music especially Waylon Jennings and camping at Twin Oaks in Middleburgh and Cold Brook in Gansevoort.
He was a member of the Watervliet Lodge of Elks #1500 and the Sons of the American Legion.
He was the beloved husband of the late Connie L. Gardner Baker who died in 2000; devoted father of Lynn and Jim Cullen of Watervliet and Stephen D. (Marie) Baker of Watervliet; proud grandfather of David M. Baker of Huntington Beach, CA and Cory and Robert Thompson and their mother Cheryl Pangborn; great grandfather of Aaron M. Baker; brother of Evelyn (late George) Nadon of Burlington, VT, Howard (Judy) Baker of Wingdale, NY, Linda (John) Collins of Vero Beach, FL and the late Paul, Jim and Albert Baker. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many special friends.
Relatives and friends may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Monday from 5-7 pm followed by the funeral service at 7 pm with Rev. John F. Tallman officiating. Interment will be private at St. Patrick’s Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice in memory of David A. Baker.
