Obituary for Shirley R. Speidel (Roeder)

SPEIGELTOWN - Shirley Elizabeth Roeder Speidel, 84, of Speigletown, died on October 28, 2018, in Newport Beach, California, following a brief illness.

Born on March 23, 1934 in Ravena, Shirley was a 1952 graduate of Ravena Coeymans Selkirk High School, and a 1955 graduate of the Albany Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.

As a registered nurse, Shirley worked at Albany Memorial Hospital, Leonard Hospital, Cohoes Memorial Hospital, and as a private duty nurse.

Shirley was a member of the Cornerstone Community Church of Lansingburgh, and a life member of the Memorial Hospital Nurses’ Alumni Association.

Cherishing her family, friends and faith, Shirley brightened the lives of all in her presence.

Shirley was predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Walter H. Speidel.

Survivors include her three children: a daughter, Laurie B. (Kevin) McConnell of Irvine, CA; a son, W. Richard Speidel of Warrensburg; and a son, Robert B. Speidel of Speigletown; two grandchildren: a granddaughter, Tara G. (Trevor) Briggs of Tustin, CA; and a grandson, Darren J. McConnell of Irvine, CA. Shirley is also survived by two nieces: Karyn Walter of Manlius, NY; and Patricia Henry of Winter Springs, FL; and two cousins: Warren Holliday of Castleton-on-Hudson; and Candace Craven of Thousand Oaks, CA.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral arrangements and burial are private and at the convenience of the family.
