Obituary for Walter P. Urban

Walter P.  Urban
Troy – Walter P. Urban, 86, died on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the Van Rensselaer Manor in North Greenbush.

Walter was born in Albany on August 18, 1930 and was the son of the late Walter Urban, Sr. and Helen (Kolach) Urban. Raised and educated in Albany he served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1950 to 1954. Walter was employed by the General Electric Company in Waterford as a chemical operator and retired with more than 30 years of service. He was a member of the Joseph E. Zaloga American Legion Post # 1520 in Albany and was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Church in Troy. Walt was an avid hunter and fisherman and a fan of the Dallas Cowboys.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Christine M (Baniak) Urban; his loving children, Walter J. Urban (Gina) of Rensselaer, Daniel P. Urban of Troy, Loretta “Lori” Castagnier (Dave) of Troy, Mark P. Urban (Jody) of Watervliet and Michael A. Urban (Tina) of Poestenkill; his cherished grandchildren, Jamie, David and Jeffery Castagnier, David Urban, Ashley Urban, Jessica Morck and Tiffany Alexander; his sisters, Arlene Bayer (late Robert) of Albany, Janice Piel (late Richard) of East Greenbush. He is also survived by several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Urban.

Walter’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Van Rensselaer Manor for the care given to Walt during his stay.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10 AM in St. Michael the Archangel Church, 175 Williams Road, Troy. Friends are invited to attend. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens, Colonie. There will be no public calling hours.
