Obituary for Nancy Deborah Burstein (Wachtell)

PETERSBURGH, NY –Nancy Deborah (Wachtell) Burstein, 70, died early Saturday morning, November 18, 2017 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy with her husband Bill at her side.
Born in New York City on September 9, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Richard Lloyd and Clara Hirsch Wachtell. Nancy was raised in Larchmont and Mamaroneck, New York until the 5th grade when she moved with her family to Scarsdale, NY and graduated from Scarsdale High School in 1965. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, PA. She later received her Master of Science in Education from the Bank Street College of Education in Manhattan.
She married her high school sweetheart, Bill Burstein, on September 26, 1969. They purchased a home in Petersburgh, NY and moved there on August 31, 1971. Nancy was employed as a curator at the Williamstown House of Local History in Williamstown, MA for over 20 years before retiring 4 years ago.
Nancy enjoyed music, reading, gardening, spending time with close friends, and loved walking especially near her home and on her road. She was active in amateur theater and enjoyed attending musical and theatrical performances. Nancy was also an enthusiastic member of the Petersburgh Public Library Board.
She is the beloved wife of 48 years of William M. Burstein, and the loving mother of Noah B. Burstein, Eve R. Burstein, and Michael D. Burstein.
The family is planning a memorial celebration in honor of Nancy to take place in the coming months. If you would like to attend, please contact the family so they can share more details as they are known.
To honor Nancy’s memory, a contribution may be made to the Petersburgh Public Library or the Williamstown Historical Museum.
