LANSINGBURGH – Zita C. McGrath Paone, formerly of Watervliet, died peacefully Christmas Eve, December 24, 2017 at her son Joe’s home in Clifton Park with her family at her side. Born in Troy on January 4, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Leo Patrick and Irene Catherine (Larkin) McGrath.
Zita was raised in Green Island and Watervliet and lived in the Port Schuyler section of Watervliet for many years before moving to Lansingburgh in 1984.
She was employed by RTA Distributors in Albany as a secretary and later by the former Holiday Inn in Menands where she worked in housekeeping for 10 years.
Zita was also a homemaker who loved to read and enjoyed her animals and cats.
She was the wife of the late Joseph Anthony Paone who died in 1994; beloved mother of Irene C. (Vaughn) Liberty of Cohoes and Joseph Paone (Annette Briggs) of Clifton Park; adored grandmother of Amanda M. Paone (Mark Hall) of Watervliet; great grandmother of Rylee Jane Hall; sister of the late Margaret McGrath Cannon, Leo Patrick McGrath, J. Pierce McGrath, William Henry McGrath, Mary Rose McGrath and Barbara Ellen McGrath. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and her cherished cat, Sonny.
The funeral will be Friday at 8:45 am from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 9:30 am at St. Augustine’s Church, Lansingburgh where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watervliet. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-6 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12204.
