Obituary for Michael J. Drobnack

WATERVLIET – Michael J. Drobnack, 94, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the Troy Center for Rehabilitation & Nursing with his friend Ruth Brand at his side. Born in Blythedale, PA on May 19, 1923, he was the son of the late John and Theresa Novak Drobnack.
He was raised and educated in Pennsylvania and was a US Navy veteran of World War II serving in Okinawa. He then moved to Cohoes and in 1951 built a house on Boght Road in Colonie with his wife.
He was employed by Commodore Cleaners for over 25 years and last by G.E. Silicones in Waterford for 15 years before retiring.
He was a very active communicant of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church in Cohoes and enjoyed gardening around his home.
He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Howansky Drobnack who died in 2006; father of Michael J. (Gloria) Drobnack of Coshocton, OH and William Drobnack of Amsterdam; brother of Martin Drobnack of Chicopee, MA, Frank Drobnack of Clifton Park and the late George, Stephen, Joseph, Albert and August Drobnack, Margaret Maychack and Anna Kryasezelski; dear friend of Ruth Brand of Cohoes; grandfather of Jason, Nicole, Sean, Kenneth, Michael and the late Dylan and he is also survived by 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to Peggie & Jake Waterbury and Randy Brand for all they have done for Mike.
The funeral service will be Thursday at 10 am at St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, 67 Saratoga Street, Cohoes with Rev. Terrance L. Wasielewski officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Memory Gardens, Colonie. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at St. Nicholas Church in Cohoes on Wednesday from 3:30-6:00 pm with the Parastas service at 5:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, 67 Saratoga Street, Cohoes, NY 12047.
