Obituary for Leo F. "Homer" Tracey

WATERVLIET – Leo F. “Homer” Tracey, 89, died peacefully Wednesday, February 14, 2018 in the comfort of his home with his loving family at his side. Born in Troy on December 19, 1928, he was the son of the late Dennis and Margaret McAvoy Tracey.
He attended St. Michael’s School and School 12 both in Troy and was a 1947 graduate of Watervliet High School. He played basketball, soccer and track but his best sport was baseball and was given the nickname “Homer” as a child for his hitting prowess in baseball.
He was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War and traveled around the world serving aboard the USS Worcester.
He was employed for over 38 years by Behr Manning/Norton Company in Watervliet before retiring.
Homer loved playing golf and was a member of the Mechanicville Country Club in good standing since 1960. He was a communicant of the former St. Patrick’s Church and now the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet.
Homer was a diehard NY Yankees baseball fan and a NY Giants and Notre Dame football fan.
He is the beloved brother of Betty M. Tracey, Raymond M. (late Jean) Tracey, James Tracey and the late Earl, Anne, William, John Joseph, Walter and Joseph (wife Frances survives) Tracey; proud uncle of Mary Ann (Terence) Howe, Raymond D. Tracey (Nitza) and Patricia (David) Fairbairn. He is also survived by several grandnieces, grandnephews, great grandnieces and great grandnephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral mass on Saturday at 9:30 am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Watervliet with Rev. Erwin H. Schweigardt officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Watervliet. There are no public calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 2416 7th Avenue, Watervliet, NY 12189.
