Obituary for Robert W. Moyer

Pompano Beach, FL – Mr. Robert W. Moyer died on Friday, March 16, 2018.

Born and raised in Albany, he was the son of the late LeRoy D. and Marguerite (Pickard) Moyer. He lived in Watervliet for 30 years until he moved to Menands in 1979 and resided there for a number of years before he became a member of the John Knox (Retirement) Village in Pompano Beach, FL.

Mr. Moyer served in the United States Army, in the ground forces, in the European Theater of Operations before being discharged in the spring of 1945. For over 35 years he was employed by the New York State Department of Transportation (specialist in bridges). He retired as a civil engineer on May 31, 1983.

Bob, as he was affectionately known by all who knew him and loved him, enjoyed playing drums in the Yankee Doodle Band for the Fort Crailo American Legion Post #471 in Rensselaer. He was a member of the Albany Musician’s Union Local #14.

Robert enjoyed captaining his inboard motor boat with the mahogany trim, as well as sailing his butterfly sailboat while he visited his summer home on Schroon Lake. During the colder months he enjoyed not only operating his model trains, but also designing new track layouts for faster and more complicated engineering.

Mr. Moyer was a communicant of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Troy, where he and his late wife Beverly (Samuels) Moyer were married on September 17, 1947. Bob was her devoted husband until her death in 1988. Mr. Moyer was also pre-deceased by his dear sister, Aleta (Warren) Kullman of Ravena and his niece, Dale Arsenault of Troy, NY.

He is survived by his companion of over 25 years, Ms. Shirley Smith Phillips of Pompano Beach, FL. He is also survived by his niece, Donna (Dennis) Young of Battleground, Washington State and his two nephews, Douglas (Deborah) Kullman of Newark, Ohio, John (Denise) Kullman of Parker, Colorado; plus special friends Cynthia and Larry Petersen, retired and living in Vero Beach, Florida.

Friends are invited to attend the viewing and may visit with the family on Friday, May 18, 2018, from 4 until 7 pm at Parker Brothers Memorial Funeral Home, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 10:30 am, also at Parker Brothers Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the John Knox Village Foundation, 651 S.W. 6th Street, Pompano Beach, FL 33060, or to a charity of your choice, in memory of Robert W. Moyer.
