Obituary for Richard Sibley

Albany – Richard Sibley, 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 29, 2018. Born in Rutland, VT on May 8, 1939, he was the son of the late Howard and Anna Sibley.
Richard grew up in Albany where he attended Holy Cross. His life was changed forever when at 8 years old he was struck by a vehicle when crossing the road. From then on, he required the assistance of several group homes that specialized in care for the disabled. Richard’s family will forever be grateful for the care these places provided, including Rome State School, O.D. Heck, and for the last 12 years, Access.
In his free time, Richard loved to go outside, go shopping, watch his favorite crime TV shows , and go out to eat or for coffee. He always kept his room and his desk organized, and could often be found doing his deskwork. He was a talkative man who enjoyed chatting with his friends at his schools. Richard’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the staff at Access, especially Edith, for their loving care they have provided to their brother over the years.
Richard is survived by his siblings, Joanne (John) Sloboda of Poestenkill, and Wayne (Catherine) Sibley of Mechanicville, as well as by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, John Sibley and Bonita Lozano.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 4 at 10 AM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Round Lake. Friends and relatives may visit with Richard’s family before the service, from 9 until 10 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s memory may be made to the America Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215.
