Obituary for Gail Frances Alleman (Belanger)
WATERVLIET – Gail F. Belanger (Alleman), the much loved mother of Mary (Kari) Reed, passed away peacefully at her home, with her family at her side, on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at the age of 72.
Gail was born in Troy on October 23, 1946 to Frank and Ida (Bover) Belanger. She was raised in the Port Schuyler section of Watervliet where she remained a resident for her entire life.
Gail was educated at the former St. Brigid’s School in Watervliet and Catholic Central High School from where she graduated in 1964. She completed her studies in nursing in 1967 at Samaritan School of Nursing in Troy and became a registered nurse. Gail specialized as a psychiatric nurse and worked at the Capital District Psychiatric Center for more than 30 years.
Gail enjoyed ceramics. She had many friends whom she had met over the years, some as far back as high school, and as often as possible, would join them for lunch to catch up with what was happening in their lives.
Gail was a long-time parishioner of the former St. Brigid’s Church in Watervliet and currently was a communicant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Watervliet.
A special and heartfelt thank you is extended to Gail’s family, friends and neighbors who visited and helped care for her during her illness and to her home health care aides for their dedication and care.
Gail was preceded in death by her husband, John (Skip) Allemen. She is survived by her loving daughter, Mary (Kari) Reed (Mike Opalka) of Cohoes; her devoted sisters, Lynn (Joseph) Moulton of Watervliet and Ellen Belanger of Sunnyvale, CA; her cherished nieces, Joely (Dave) Kleet, Joslyn (Jim) Strock and Jordyn Moulton.
Gail’s funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 am in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Church, 25th Street and 7th Avenue, Watervliet. The Rite of Committal and interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Watervliet. Friends are invited to attend and may also visit with Gail’s family on Wednesday from 4 until 7 pm at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet.
Gail’s love for nursing and appreciation for the education she received has prompted her family to suggest donations, in her memory, to the Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing, c/o Northeast Health Foundation, 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208.
