Obituary for Barbara Ann Shuhart (Barkyoumb)
BERLIN – Barbara Ann Barkyoumb Shuhart, 79, died peacefully Thursday, September 26, 2019 at her home with her loving family at her side. Born in Burlington, VT on February 8, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Orie and Elsie Destromp Barkyoumb.
Barbara lived in Connecticut, Grafton, Poestenskill before moving to Berlin. She attended Berlin Central School and met her husband Lloyd at the Petersburgh Dance.
She was employed by W.T. Grant in East Greenbush, Montgomery Ward & Co. in Menands, Ted’s Fish Fry on Hoosick Street in Troy, Samaritan Hospital where she worked in the Pediatric Ward and in the cafeteria and most recently at the Berlin High School cafeteria.
Barbara enjoyed reading romance novels, collecting paperweights and snowmobiling in her younger years.
She is the beloved wife of 62 years of Lloyd J. Shuhart; loving mother of John L. (Sandra) Shuhart of Poestenkill, Michael P. Shuhart of Troy, Mehre V. (Eli) Strong of Berlin and the late Natasha Shuhart; grandmother of Danielle Wolfe, Ian and Shelby Hasselwander and Jasmine Roberts; sister of Jeanette (Jack) McGrath of Michigan, Lorrie Svehla of Cropseyville and the late Michael Barkyoumb; sister in law of Joyce and Fred Albert of East Greenbush. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be Monday, September 30th at 12 noon at the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh. Relatives and friends are invited and may call prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday from 10:30 am – 12 noon. Interment will follow in Berlin Community Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
