STEPHENTOWN – Charles Carmine “Charlie” Giumarra, Jr., 65, died suddenly Saturday, December 7, 2019 at his home in Stephentown. He was born in Mount Vernon, NY on July 1, 1954, the son of the late Charles Carmine and Jane Elizabeth Beckwith Giumarra, Sr.

Charlie’s family moved to Stephentown as a newborn child, purchasing Three Hill Farm off of East Road. He was a 1973 graduate of Berlin Central School.

An electrician by trade, he often was referred to as “Sparky” when first starting his business, Charles C. Giumarra, Jr. Electric, which he captained for the majority of his life. He also worked with his dad for 10 years operating Giumarra & Son Horse Shoes.

Charlie enjoyed sitting around the bonfire with friends and family as well as tinkering on his lawn mowers. Most will remember him for his kind heart and generous spirit, always willing to help others in their times of need.

Special thanks to Timothy Giumarra for always being there in his times of need, and to the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Mohawk Ambulance and the New York State Police for all of their assistance when we needed their expert care at our time of need.

He is the devoted father of Ashley (Mihir) Patel of Charleston, SC, Christopher Giumarra of Lebanon, NH and Aaron Giumarra of Schenectady; longtime companion of Sally Moon of Stephentown; proud grandfather of Bennett Patel; dear brother of Frank (Becky) Giumarra of Cherry Plain, James (Linda) Giumarra of Salem, NY, Mary Jane Iksic of New Jersey, Joseph Giumarra of Stephentown, Richard Giumarra of Florida and the late John Giumarra. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY 43, Stephentown on Friday from 3-6 pm followed by a funeral service at 6:00 pm with Father John Close officiating. A celebration of his life will follow in the Stephentown Fire Hall.

In the spirit of Charlie Giumarra, “Don your best suspenders, buy a cheap case of beer and don’t forget to pour gasoline on the bonfire”.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 208, Stephentown, NY 12168 for all the good work they do for our community.

Rest In Peace, sweet friend...I’ve posted this before, but will add here...Charlie would always bring a loaf of Italian bread from Roma’s Bakery whenever he would visit John and I...a tradition of “breaking bread” with friends and family. My condolences to Charlie’s family,
with a special remembrance of Christopher who came often to visit and help his Uncle John...miss you hon.
And to Sally who accompanied Charlie many times
to visit sincerest sympathies for your loss.
Prayers for all
