Obituary for Harold Ford Cummings

CHERRY PLAIN – Harold “Hal” Ford Cummings, 65, died Friday, December 20, 2019 at the Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA.

He was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on August 4, 1954, the son of the late Edward Charles and Roberta Ford Cummings. He lived in many areas of the United States while his father served in the US Army before settling in Cherry Plain. He was a graduate of Berlin Central School where he wrestled and also participated in photography. He later graduated from SUNY Cobleskill with an associate’s degree in auto mechanics.

He was employed by Larabee Oil Company in New Lebanon, Goodyear Tire in Troy and also by Jiminy Peak Ski Resort in Hancock, MA where he was involved in ski repair and the “ski police”. He also was a wedding photographer and a stay at home dad after 1995 when he went out on a disability from work. He played in various bands in the area as a bass player.

He is the father of Harvest Moon’s Dancer of Cherry Plain, Alexandria Ursula Devine Kunes (Kyle) of Port Orange, FL, Shadow Star Maynard of Cherry Plain and Roberta Ashley Barber of Kentucky; grandfather of Bryson Kunes and Aesir Maynard; his former companion and mother of three of his daughters, Mary Devine of Cherry Plain; brother of Larry Cummings, Leslie Wright and Diane Kimball. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh on Saturday, January 4th from 12 noon – 1:00 pm. A pot luck gathering and reception will follow the calling hour in the former Mill House Inn (“Your own B & B” on sign), 86 Route 43, Stephentown (1/2 mile east of Dave’s Market).
